I climbed the wide gully on the NE side of Wheeler, which leads to high up on it’s East ridge, in mid May of 2023. Snow conditions were sub-optimal and unconsolidated regardless of rather cold temps. The central gully up Wheeler’s NE face is a beautiful line and would make a fun climb. The crux seems to be a 10m section of high angle ice and rock. Upon gaining Wheeler’s summit, I traversed north to the pyramidal sub-peak on the the ridge that leads to Drift and proceeded to glissade wonderfully down its east side and then posthole apocalyptically back to my tent below Quandary. The drainages of the high Tenmile seem to offer a lifetime of moderate mixed climbing opportunities on its buttresses and ridgelines that seem relatively ignored. Would be nice to see more people out there!
